Eating good food is an important part of the French way of life –
usually with their families, often in local Auberges or restaurants and normally at a leisurely pace accompanied
by a few bottles of wine or cider.
In Normandy many dishes combine the local produce of cheese, cream and butter
with cider or calvados – a rich but refined cuisine. Fish and shellfish also feature, especially along the
coast in places such as Granville. The emphasis is on using fresh, locally grown ingredients.

There is a wide selection of places to eat around le Deshayes, from the crêperies in Coutances, the numerous Relais and Auberges in the local villages to the fine dining in the more upmarket restaurants.
Details of many local establishments are included in the Gite information folder and help is available, if required, with booking a table.

“Memorable meal at Le Relais du Viaduc , Coutances – would recommend and the Pizzeria Napolitain at Carentan.”
