Our nearest big town is Coutances, a bustling market town with numerous shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Market day is on Thursdays. In addition, there are a number of major supermarkets around the outskirts of the town, with E.Leclerc to the north probably the largest. We can give you directions!

Coutances is dominated by the beautiful Notre-Dame Cathedral. With its towers and turrets soaring above the town, the Cathedral was reconstructed during the 13th century after the original building had burnt down.
However, the original structure of the nave and towers remain and form the gothic structure’s framework, the jewel in the crown of Norman architecture.
Its stained glass windows from the Middle Ages, the largest collection of 13th century stained glass in Normandy , are a particular delight.

Another attraction not to be missed is the Coutances Public Gardens . These were created between 1852 and 1855 and offer a harmonious marriage of French symmetry, English copsing and Italianate terracing. A collection of rare trees, superb flowerbeds, floral pattern displays and a maze all make this the perfect place in which to wander and daydream. The music and light show every evening during July and August is a wonderful experience.

Coutances has a range of cultural events throughout the year, including the world famous jazz festival in May. There is also a swimming pool and an ice skating rink.
